Senior Automation Engineer – PLC & Electrical Systems

We analyse the manufacturing process, develop the automation concept, select the technologies and build the complete system from the ground up.

We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer who can take technical ownership of complex projects and turn an initial idea into a reliable production system.

What You'll Do

You will independently lead automation projects from the initial concept through electrical design, PLC development, testing and on-site commissioning.
Your responsibilities will include:
Analyse manufacturing processes and develop complete automation concepts.
Define the control architecture, network topology and interfaces between system components.
Select PLCs, distributed I/O, industrial networks, drives, sensors, actuators and safety components.
Design industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, control circuits, machine safety and cabinet architecture.
Develop structured, maintainable and reliable PLC and HMI software.
Integrate industrial robots, servo systems, frequency drives and third-party equipment.
Coordinate technical interfaces between the electrical, mechanical, robotics and software teams.
Review electrical schematics, PLC software, I/O lists, BOMs and technical documentation.
Plan and lead system testing, troubleshooting and commissioning.
Identify technical risks and solve complex system-level problems.
Guide junior engineers and automation technicians throughout project delivery.
Communicate technical decisions with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
Follow developments in industrial automation and evaluate new technologies for practical project use.
Travel internationally for installation, testing and commissioning.
You will have the freedom to influence the technical direction of each project and the support of junior engineers and technicians during design, assembly, testing and commissioning.

What We're Looking For

Proven experience delivering industrial automation or machine-control projects.
Strong PLC programming experience with Siemens, Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley or comparable platforms.
Practical knowledge of structured PLC software, machine states, operating modes, interlocks, alarms and fault recovery.
Experience designing electrical control systems for industrial machines.
Understanding of power distribution, motor control, drives, industrial I/O and machine safety.
Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, EtherCAT or Ethernet/IP.
Ability to develop a complete control-system architecture and select suitable components.
Strong commissioning, diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with complex systems containing multiple machines, robots, motion axes or distributed control stations.
Ability to work independently and take responsibility for technical decisions.
Good written and spoken English.
Willingness to travel internationally.

What's a Plus

Experience with industrial or collaborative robots such as ABB, FANUC, KUKA or Doosan.
Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools.
Knowledge of functional safety and relevant industrial safety standards.
Experience with servo motion, hydraulic or pneumatic control systems.
Experience integrating PLC systems with SCADA, databases or higher-level software.
Basic knowledge of Python, C/C++ or another general-purpose programming language.
Experience mentoring engineers or technically coordinating project teams.

We do not expect you to have worked with every PLC platform or robot brand. We are looking for strong engineering fundamentals, practical experience and the ability to make sound system-level decisions.
